If you can’t find an answer to your question there, please send us an email at mypath@ethz.ch.

  • Who can create a myPath profile?
Every student or employee at ETH Zurich can create a myPath profile. The profile is linked to a Swiss EDU login account, which ETH members receive upon entering the university. If you work at a partner institution and still wish to create a myPath profile to register your educational offers, contact the myPath-Team at mypath@ethz.ch.
  • How can I create a myPath profile?
To create a profile on myPath, you first need to login to the platform using your Switch EDU account from the login section on myPath. Once you are logged in, you will be able to access additional pages and features and personalise your profile based on your role. Employees are automatically assigned the role “organiser” which allows to register educational offers for publication on myPath. They have access to the “Manage my Entries” page to register and manage offers. Students can personalise their profile in the settings to manage their individual learning journey through the education and support offers of ETH Zurich. Doctoral students can personalise their profile on myPath and also register offers for other students, given their dual role (student and employee of ETH). Postdocs can enrol in suitable activities or register own activities for publication.
  • Why can’t I log in to myPath?
To log in on myPath, you need an active ETH Zurich account. If you have an ETH account, but the login on myPath is still failing, we recommend checking the spelling of your ETH credentials or contacting us at mypath@ethz.ch
  • Can I use myPath without creating a profile?
Yes, myPath can be used without creating a profile. If you choose not to create a profile, you will still be able to search the myPath catalogue. However, additional functions for students like enrolment, wish list, customised search of educational offers, documentation of your competence development are not available. Organisers without an active myPath profile, cannot register any offers on myPath.
  • How can I manage notifications from myPath?
You can select in the Settings which notifications you wish to receive from myPath.
  • How can I update my profile?
Students (incl. doctoral students), can update their profile in the Settings. They can indicate the preferred language for offers and up to three competencies they aim to currently focus on to develop further. myPath uses these information as a pre-set filter for the catalogue. These features are not available for postdocs. They can search  educational offers, that are open to postdocs. For organisers, profile is already pre-defined based on your institutional affiliation.
  • What happens to my profile if I don’t use it for some time?
If students do not use their myPath profile for a longer period, the platform will remind them to update their profile so that you won’t miss any relevant educational or support offers that might meet your needs or interests.
  • What happens to my profile when I leave ETH Zurich?
When you leave ETH Zurich, your myPath profile will still be accessible to you for as long as your ETH account remains valid. This validity term might vary, depending on whether you are a former student (including a visiting student) or a former employee. As a former student, you can export the information contained in your profile and use it for supporting your next steps in your studies or career.
  • Who has access to my profile?
Your profile contains personal information that may be shared with organisers of extracurricular activities. However, any sensitive information on your profile will not be disclosed to others without your explicit consent. The organisers of extracurricular activities may require additional information beyond basic user information. Basic user information, i.e., the first and last names, email address, and an identifiable student (or employee) number, are always shared with the organisers as it is necessary for completing the enrolment process. Additional information (e.g., educational level or answers to customised questions from the organisers) are shared with the organisers only if the student (or postdoc) provides consent to it. If disclosed, the enrolment information is used by the organisers to record a student’s participation in an activity further and will allow the platform to add this activity to the student’s activities list automatically on myPath. The activities documentation feature is only available for students (as of Spring 2026). Organisers can use disclosed information for their own statistical purposes (e.g., attendance statistics), provided that participants have given their consent.

  • How does a managing group work?
A managing group is a group of persons with shared editing rights for entries on myPath. Members of a managing group can be affiliated with a different team at ETH or be part of multiple managing groups. Organisers can submit their request for creating a managing group via the platform
(Settings/Groups/Create a new group section) and manage group membership. This is also possible by clicking on a specific managing group, of which they are members, on the Settings/Groups/View my groups section. A user will be notified to join a new or existing managing group and can decide whether to accept or decline the invitation. The user will also be notified in the case of removal from a managing group. In this way, each group can adjust its composition over time, ensuring continued access to educational offers in case of internal turnover. Colleagues who do not yet have a profile on myPath will receive an email notification to enter myPath and join a managing group. The managing groups are accessible to organisers upon login, on the Settings page (myProfile/My Groups/View my groups section). Members of a managing group have access to all the entries (services and extracurricular activities) that have ever been registered by members of the same group on myPath. These entries can also be used as templates for registering new educational offers.

However, be aware that organisers may still decline an enrolment request if this contains incomplete information.
If disclosed, the enrolment information is used by the organisers to record a student’s participation in an activity further and will allow the platform to add this activity to the student’s activities list automatically on myPath. The activities documentation feature is only available for students (as of Spring 2026). Organisers can use disclosed information for their own statistical purposes (e.g., attendance statistics).

If your activity allows for student enrolments on myPath, you can manage the participant and waiting list on your activity management page. You reach it via “Manage my Entries”: open the specific extracurricular offer, then go to the “Participants” section. You can process enrolment requests, request additional information to finalise an enrolment, and confirm the participants’ attendance (or no-shows) and performance (if applicable).
  • How does the visualisation work?
The Competence Profile in the section Competence Development allows students to visualize which educational offers they participated in and which competencies they fostered. The graphic illustrates a progressive development of competencies by successfully attending different offers. Competencies which students aim to focus on, can be set via the Competence Framework in the header or in the settings.
  • How does the documentation work?
The section Competence Development compiles the students’ curricular and extracurricular educational activities. Successfully completed course from the ETH Course Catalogue appear automatically on the activity list, provided that the competencies fostered/assessed have been indicated. Analogous, successfully completed extracurricular activities are registered, in case the registration process is managed via myPath and participation/passing has been confirmed by the organiser. Additionally, students are able register extracurricular activities they have successfully attended. The section Competence Development displays past and ongoing activities by categories (curricular, extracurricular, and other activities). The present activities are curricular and extracurricular activities in which you are currently enroled. The information about these activities comes from your enrolment data or self-reported activities (other activities) if they are available on myPath.
  • Which educational offers can be documented on myPath?
myPath documents both curricular offers from the ETH course catalogue and extracurricular ones from the myPath catalogue. Curricular offers are curated by lecturers, extracurricular ones by organisers. They indicate the competencies that students can develop by participating in them. Additionally, myPath allows students to self-document other activities, that they have successfully completed at ETH or outside, and that are either not on myPath or that manage participation externally.
  • What is the difference between fostered and assessed competencies?
A competency is "fostered” if a learning activity supports the development of this competency. If the successful development of the competency is also part of the performance assessment (grade or pass/fail), the competency is indicated as "assessed". Lecturers are responsible to specify which competencies participants can develop in their offer and to differentiate between assessed and fostered competencies.
  • Can I document other educational offers that are not on myPath?
Yes, students can add other educational offers they successfully attended or in which they are currently enroled in to their activities list by clicking the “+ Record other activities” button on their Competence Development page. For the self-declaration, title and type of activity (drop-down menu), the priod of time, an abstract what the activity was about, the competencies developed as well as the organiser of the activity have to registered.
  • How can I personalise or export my documented activities?
You can filter the list of documented educational offers by competencies or degree programme (on the right above the table).  The activities list can be exported as PDF or Excel document. Individual courses can be excluded from the overview, if necessary.
  • Who has access to my documented educational offers?
myPath is for you! Only you have access to your list of documented educational offers and your profile. The myPath administration has access to the entire platform for maintenance purposes and is bound to keep your information confidential.
  • What happens to my documented educational offers when I leave ETH?
Your documented educational offers on myPath will stay available to you after you leave ETH for as long as your ETH account stays available. This term may vary depending on your role as a visiting student or student. We recommend you to export all information contained in your profile before leaving ETH.
  • Does the documentation of educational offers count as a certification from ETH?
No. ETH does not certify the educational offers documented on myPath. The documentation supports students to reflect their competence development during their studies at ETH and document it.
  • How is the visualised Competence Profile connected with the documentation feature?
The visualisation graphically represents how the attended offers contribute to the individual competence development. The overview is purely cumulative, real quantification is not possible. At the same time, is depends on the correctness and completeness of the competences indicated by the respective organisers. The tabular documentation lists all activities with the individual competencies fostered or assessed which flow into the visualisation. By unclicking the checkbox, students can exclude individual entries from their overview for the export of the visualisation and the activities.
