  • Which activities can I find on myPath?
    myPath gathers extracurricular activities and support offers of ETH Zurich. These initiatives aim to support students' and postdocs' studies or work at ETH Zurich. They provide users with more knowledge about competencies and the opportunity to develop skills in practice or to experience attitudes necessary to acquire certain competencies. These activities or support offers are of different types, for example, competitions; counselling and mentoring sessions; funding opportunities; guided tours and excursions; infrastructure and equipment; manuals and guidelines; networking events; online tutorials; seminars, lectures, and colloquia; student projects; summer and winter schools; websites and online portals; and workshops.
  • How can I explore by competencies? You can select (and deselect) competencies from the "Explore by competencies" filter. The filter contains all the twenty competencies of the ETH Competence Framework. You can either select the competencies individually or explore the activities by competency domains. In this seccanill be able to visualise all those activities that promote the competencies included in the competency domains ( example: if you click on "Social competencies", you will see those activities that promote communication, leadership, etc.). The competency groups are the following four: subject-specific, method-specific, social, and personal competencies.
  • What do the coloured icons below the activity represent?
    The icons below the activity window in the overview represent the competencies that users can develop in the specific activity or, thanks to the support offered. You can learn more about the competencies by moving your mouse over the icons. The icons indicate the competencies fostered. These competencies are the main focus of the activity. The different colours of the icons help you distinguish among different groups of competencies (domains). The blue icons display subject-specific competencies; the bronze icons show method-specific competencies; the green icons show social competencies, and the purple icons indicate personal competencies.
  • How can I explore by audience? Are you wondering whether there is any specific activity that suits you (or a student of yours)? On myPath, you can search for activities by the target audience by using the "Explore by audience" filter. You can choose multiple options among Bachelor students, Master students, Doctoral students, Postdocs and Everyone. Here "Everyone" means that the activity or initiative is not restricted to a specific target audience.
  • How can I explore by language?
    On myPath, you can use the "Explore by language" filter to explore activities that are offered only in English (English), only in German (German), or in both English and German (both). You can select multiple tags.
  • How can I explore by semester?
    You can explore the activities by selecting one or multiple academic semesters from the "Explore by academic semester" filter. The portal allows you to search for activities that are offered in the current semester.
  • How can I explore by target audience size?
    On myPath, you can use the "Explore by Sizes" menu to find activities that offer a more tailored or generic (learning) experience. "NA" indicates that no information about the audience size has been provided.
  • How can I explore by location?
    You can search activities by location by selecting any option (multiple choice) from the "explore by location" menu. In the case of a hybrid event, you will see that multiple locations are displayed. 
  • How can I use the search engine?
    Are you searching for something specific? You can use the search engine by typing your own text in the tab (e.g., the organiser's name, part of the activity title).
  • How can I learn more about a specific activity? To learn more about a specific activity, you will need to click on an activity name from the overview. You will visualise a new page with further details about the activity, including an abstract, the learning objectives, a short description of the content of the activity.
  • Who offers the activities?
    All the activities and initiatives listed on myPath are offered by organisers from ETH Zurich. To learn more about the organisers of a specific activity, you need to click on an activity name from the overview. You will be able to read further details about the activity. You can find the organiser's details on the sidebar of the new page.
  • What do icons represent?
    The icons represent the competencies promoted by the specific activity. On the activity page, the icons displayed below the Activity Title indicate the competencies that participants can develop in the activity. The blue icons display subject-specific competencies, bronze icons show method-specific competencies, green icons show social competencies, and purple icons indicate personal competencies. You can learn more about these competencies by clicking on them.
  • What is the abstract about?
    The abstract describes briefly what the activity is about.
  • What are learning objectives?
    In the learning objectives section, you find out more about what is in it for you (or your student) if you (or the student) participate in the specific activity. You will read more about what participants can learn (knowledge), can do, or put into practice after participating in the activity.
  • What does the content section describe?
    The content section tells you more about what happens during the activity, for example, by providing you with the specific syllabus or format planned for the activity.
  • What does the academic semester include?
  • The academic semester section shows you in which semesters the activity takes place.
  • What does target audience mean?
    The target audience section displays for whom the activity is offered. Make sure that the activity suits you before inquiring further about the activity. Activities can be offered to bachelor students, master students, doctoral students, postdocs or everyone indistinctly.
  • What is included in the comment field?
    You can find specific notes about requirements or pre-assignments from the organiser in the comment field.
  • How do I know whether I can enrol in an activity?
    You can check if the activity suits you by searching for a target audience ("Explore by audience" filter on the overview) or consulting the activity page's target audience section. Activities that are open to anyone at ETH Zurich are listed as addressing "everyone".
  • How can I enrol in activities?
    You can enrol in an activity by navigating to the activity webpage. If you are in the overview, you can click on the activity title first to access further details about the activity, then click on "Open activity page" on the side bar.
  • How can I enquire more about the activities?
    Do you have more questions about an activity? Contact the activity organiser by clicking on "Contact activity organiser" from the sidebar of the activity page.
  • Will I receive an enrolment confirmation or certification from myPath?
    No, you will not. myPath helps you find the activity and navigate further to the activity webpage. You can enquire about the enrolment or any participation certificate (if any) directly on the activity webpage or by contacting the organiser.
  • Who can register activities on myPath?
    Only members of ETH Zurich (employees) can register activities on myPath.
  • What types of activities can be registered on myPath?
    myPath gathers extracurricular activities and initiatives that take place at ETH Zurich. These activities and initiatives can support ETH students and postdocs in their studies and work at ETH Zurich. They provide users with more knowledge about competencies, and the opportunity to develop skills in practice or to experience attitudes necessary to acquire certain competencies. Activities can address any of the following types of audience: bachelor students, master students, doctoral students, postdocs, or everyone at ETH indistinctly.
    These activities can be of different types, for example, competitions; counselling and mentoring sessions; funding opportunities; guided tours and excursions; infrastructure and equipment; manuals and guidelines; networking events; online tutorials; seminars, lectures, and colloquia; student projects; summer and winter schools; websites and online portals; and workshops. Past activities or activities that take place only once do not qualify for registration.
  • How can I register activities on myPath?
    You can register activities on myPath by using the registration form available to you after logging in with your ETH credentials (SWITCH AAI login). In this manual, we summarised the procedure and all the information needed from your side for registering your activities for Spring 2024.
  • Can registration applications be rejected?
    Yes. Registration applications are rejected if you provide incomplete or faulty information or submit any offensive, denigrating or discriminating content. Registration applications are also rejected if they do not address any of the target audiences at ETH Zurich.
  • When can I register activities on myPath?
    The next registration phase (for the Spring 2024 catalogue) opens on October 4, 2023. Applications are evaluated only if they have been submitted by the registrations deadline (next deadline: December 3, 2023). Late applications are automatically disregarded. 
  • How many activities can I register on myPath?
    You are welcome to submit as many activities as you wish.
  • Who accepts or rejects the applications?
    The Strategic Initiatives Team of the Rector is responsible for the application process.
  • How will I learn whether my activity is accepted?
    You can visualise the status of your applications directly on myPath, after logging in with your ETH credentials (Switch AAI login).
  • How can I visualise the status of the registration of my activities?
    You can visualise the status of your activities directly on myPath, after logging in with your ETH credentials (Switch AAI login).
  • What does "Status: Submitted" mean?
    The status “Submitted” indicates that the portal has successfully received your registration application but that the revision process for it has not started yet.
  • What does "Status: In progress" mean?
    The status “In progress” indicates that the revision process for your activity has started but has not been finalised yet.
  • What does "Status: Conditionally accepted" mean?
    You are almost there! The status “Conditionally accepted” indicates that all the main information concerning your activity has been revised and has been evaluated as appropriate for publication on myPath. However, the reviewer requires some additional information or modifications to ensure a better fit of the content on myPath within the deadline indicated. You will have 1-2 weeks to submit some additional information or make minor modifications to the content provided to ensure a better fit of your activity on the portal.
  • What does "Status: Rejected" mean?
    The status “Rejected” indicates that your registration application has been rejected. The rejection is accompanied by a brief written explanation of the reasons for rejection. For example, registration applications are rejected if you provided incomplete or faulty information or submitted any offensive, denigrating or discriminating content. Registration applications are also rejected if they are not offered by ETH members (or their partners) or do not address any of the target audiences at ETH Zurich.
  • What does "Status: Accepted" mean?
    Congratulations! The status “Accepted” means that your registration request has been accepted for publication on myPath for the coming semester. Your activity goes live on myPath 30 days before the start of the administrative semester in which the activity takes place.
  • What does "Status: Active" mean?
    The status “Active” means that your activity is live on myPath.
  • What does "Status: Inactive" mean?
    The status “Inactive” means that your activity, which was previously accepted for publication on myPath, is no longer displayed on the portal.
  • What happens after my activity has been accepted?
    If your activity has been accepted, myPath will publish it on the homepage 30 days before the start of the coming administrative semester (on January 1 for the Spring semester and on August 1 for the Autumn semester).
  • Can I update the information of an activity that has been accepted?
    No. You can no longer update the information of an activity if it has been accepted for publication on myPath for the coming semester. However, we recommend you to indicate any relevant information for prospective participants (e.g., cancellations, further restrictions) directly on the activity’s website managed by your organisation. Minor changes on myPath will be made by the myPath administrators upon request (write to mypath@ethz.ch).
  • Can I update the information concerning an activity that has been "conditionally accepted"?
    Yes, you are required to update the information concerning an activity that has been “conditionally accepted”. You will have 1-2 weeks to submit some additional information or make minor modifications to the content provided to ensure a better fit of your activity on the portal.
  • Can I submit information concerning an activity that has been "rejected" again?
    You can submit a registration application for an activity that has been “rejected” only if the cause of rejection does not include any of the following reasons:
    • submission of incomplete or faulty information;
    • submission of offensive, denigrating or discriminating content;
    • submission concerning an activity occurring only in the past;
    • submission concerning an activity that is not offered by ETH members (or partners)
    • submission concerning an activity that does not any of the myPath target audiences at ETH Zurich.
  • How can I login on myPath?
    You can login on myPath by clicking on the login icon on the top right of your window. You will be redirected to the SWITCH edu-ID login. Enter your ETH Zurich credentials (email and password) and click on “Login”. When you are logged in, your name is displayed on the right side on your window (instead of Login).
  • How can I create a SWITCH edu-ID?
    After clicking on “Login”, you will be automatically redirected to the SWITCH edu-ID window. Click on the button “Create account” to create an account. Enter your details (First name, last name, personal email address, password and CAPTCHA code) and click on “Create account”. You will see an email Verification message notifying that “Your SWITCH edu-ID account was successfully registered”. Check your mailbox and open the email that you have received from SWITCH edu-ID. Click on the link included in the email to complete the account activation. You will see an Account Activation message that notifies that your email address was successfully verified and your SWITCH edu-ID account is now active. Click on the button “Proceed to service”. At this stage, you are back to myPath. Enter your credentials and click “Accept”. You are now logged in. When you are logged in, your name is displayed on the right side on your window (instead of Login).
  • Why do I get the error message "Logic incorrect – There are no organisations linked to this account”?
    The error message “Login incorrect – There are no organisations linked to this account” means that your account is not yet successfully linked to an organisational identity. Go to https://eduid.ch/ and click on “Add organisational identity”. Select ETH Zurich from the drop-down menu and click on “Proceed”. You are now on the SWITCH edu-ID page. Scroll down until “Procedure in IAM” and click on www.passwort.ethz.ch. Enter your ETH Zurich credentials (ETH username and ETH password), then click on “Login”. You will see the Edu-ID section on the right side of the window. Click on this section to link your organisation with SWITCH edu-ID. Your organisation is now successfully linked with Edu-ID (as you can see from the message). Go back to www.mypath.ethz.ch, try to log in again and enjoy myPath! When you are logged in, your name is displayed on the right side on your window (instead of Login).
