Science-Policy Workshop: Engagement, Roles and Use of Scientific Evidence in Policymaking for Sustainability
Abstract
Through expert input on sustainability-focused case studies and hands-on exercises, researchers can gain insights into how policymakers engage with scientific evidence and apply self-reflection tools to examine their own role as researchers vis-à-vis knowledge production, integration, and solution development.
Learning Objectives
- Gain insights into how policy actors engage with scientific evidence
- Apply self-reflection tools to examine own role as researcher vis-à-vis knowledge production, integration, and solution development
Content
Pressing societal challenges—such as climate change, armed conflicts, and the rise of artificial intelligence—require informed decision-making based on the best available scientific evidence. The impact of this evidence depends on whether and how this evidence is used by policymakers but also on how this evidence is produced and disseminated.
Researchers can take on different roles in this process, which will be explored in this workshop. Through sustainability-focused case studies and hands-on exercises, participants will gain insights into how policymakers engage with scientific evidence while applying self-reflection tools to examine their own roles as researchers.
