Abstract

PubMed is the world's most important bibliographic database for medicine and biomedicine. It is maintained by the National Library of Medicine (USA). We will use examples to show you how to build a search strategy and how to use this database to find literature efficiently. Feel free to bring your own clinical question! 

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, you are able to

  • describe your clinical question within the PICO model,
  • develop a search strategy,
  • apply MeSH terms to your PubMed search.

  • Simple and advanced search in PubMed
  • Clinical questions within PICO
  • Combinations of individual concepts in the search history
  • Sensitivity versus specificity of a search
  • What are Medical Subject Headings (MeSH)?
  • Practice on your own topic
