Introductory programme for new doctoral students

Abstract

This workshop will look at how to produce effective scientific writing, focusing on English language-related conventions and concerns.

This workshop shows you what to look at when selecting suitable scientific vocabulary, writing clear and precise sentences, creating a coherent flow of information, and organizing paragraphs that optimize the reader's understanding of your science.

Learning Objectives

Through collaborative exercises, you will have the opportunity to learn how to select and use online writing resources effectively, including field-specific style guides.

  • Strategies for finding and using appropriate vocabulary in scientific writing
  • Tips for writing more reader-friendly complex sentences
  • How writers can establish a better flow of information by creating smoother connections between sentences and by using effective paragraph structures.
