Academic project and time management: from planning to publishing
Abstract
Have you started your Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral thesis or any other writing project, but don’t know how best to approach and structure the many work steps involved? In this course, you will receive useful methods and tools so you can always retain an overview and stay in control of it all: whether that’s your research project, drafting text, personal time management or communicating with your supervisor. Between the two modules, you will work purposefully on planning your own project.
Learning Objectives
- apply the methods and tools that you need to define milestones and plan the next steps in your thesis or text;
- develop solutions to minimise risks and gain confidence in tackling your research and writing project;
- communicate more effectively with your stakeholders.
Content
- Project management: methods and tools, agile planning, identifying risks, rough planning of your research and writing project.
- Time management: motivation, avoiding procrastination.
- Communication: identifying stakeholders, receiving support.
- Sprint 1 (on-site): together, we will explore the foundations of project management and time management. You will gain an overview of the milestones, stakeholders and risks involved in your current project.
- Sprint 2 (homework): with the tips and tools you have learned, you will move from rough to detailed planning and conduct a stakeholder and risk analysis. You will use this to develop a concept for your project.
- Sprint 3 (on-site): working in peer groups, you will present your concepts and compare, discuss and reflect on them. There is enough time to address areas of uncertainty.
