Abstract

In the lab or a lecture, while studying or reading scientific texts: we constantly expand our knowledge, create new ideas and take notes. How do we best keep an overview? How can we identify how topics relate to each other and organise these contextual relationships? This course introduces useful tools that help you organise your knowledge and your own thoughts in an easily navigable way, find the notes you need and write efficiently.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, you will be able to

  • choose the best knowledge management tool for your own needs,
  • use the Zettelkasten method and optimise your note-taking,
  • understand how reference management and knowledge management interact,
  • prevent plagiarism through efficient note-taking and purposeful reading.

•    Overview of knowledge management tools
•    Secrets of the Zettelkasten method
•    Interplay of reading scientific texts, reference management and knowledge management
•    Contribution of knowledge and reference management tools to correct citation and avoidance of plagiarism
