Networking Events

Abstract

Selected students have the opportunity to meet and interact with representatives (Human Resources, Line Managers, ETH Alumni) of hiring companies.

Learning Objectives

After participating in one or several of these events, students should have (1) an overview of specific career management techniques as given to them by the participating company (e.g. CV do's and don'ts, how companies use LinkedIn to hire, ...) and (2) a better understanding of the job market, incl. having a better understanding of what a specific company does, the types of jobs they offer, which skills and competencies are required. Additionally, thanks to the networking opportunity created by these events, students will have practised their self-presentation and communication skills and gauge their impact on a future potential employer.

Content

After the student signs up for one or other event (requirements: he or she needs to fit the target group and be interested in the company that is holding the event), they are invited to a 2 hour meeting with the company. This meeting is held in our Career Center premises or in an alternative location close to HG. The structure of these events are similar: they start off with a short introduction to the company and people present, followed by a career-related input from the company. The event ends with a Q&A session. Then all participants transition to a breakfast/lunch/supper buffet where students can network with company representatives.
