Interview Training (in person)

Counseling & Mentoring Sessions

Abstract

Students have the opportunity to practice a live interview with a career coach and to receive real-time feedback.

Learning Objectives

Thanks to direct feedback on and discussion about their performance during a mock interview, students should better understand what they are doing well and where and how they need to improve their interviewing skills.

Content

During this session, the coach interviews the student using his/her CV and a mock job advertisement. The interview focuses on typical person-job fit questions (competency based/behavioural); technical questions are not the focus. The coach observes the interviewee's verbal (how he/she answers the question) and non-verbal behaviour (facial expressions, tone, gestures,...) displayed during the interview. After the interview, the coachee gives the student feedback to his/her performance using real examples from the interview. They also discuss alternative interviewing strategies and behaviours that aim to improve the student's performance.
