Abstract

A teaching portfolio is a key component of faculty job applications. It presents your teaching accomplishments, philosophy, and impact—supported by evidence and reflection. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to develop a strong teaching statement and begin assembling a portfolio that effectively showcases your teaching experience.

Lernziele

  • Know what a teaching portfolio is and know how to structure such a document
  • Write your own teaching statement and get feedback from your peers
  • Critically evaluate different teaching statements from others.

Inhalt

In this workshop, you learn about the scope and structure of a teaching portfolio and why you should already start to draft a teaching portfolio during your doctorate. The second part of the workshop focuses on the teaching philosophy statement. The teaching philosophy is the component of the teaching portfolio which describes own core beliefs about teaching and how these are reflected in the personal teaching experience, impact and goals. Finally, you will evaluate different teaching statements and then develop a draft of your own teaching statement.
