Abstract

The majority of doctoral students and postdocs end up working outside of academia. During this presentation, doctoral students and postdocs learn about the differences between working in academia and working in industry.

Learning Objectives

Participants learn more about the main differences between working in academica and working in industry as well as 5 critical skills for getting hired and promoted in industry.

Content

Some key questions that are addressed:

  • Do you feel confident that you can impress an industry hiring manager when you describe the very specialized area of research you just spent years pursuing?
  • What kinds of company jobs are available that scientists are able (and happy) to do?
