Abstract

During this 2.5-day interactive blended-learning seminar, doctoral students reflect and work on developing more clarity about their career path and vision.

Learning Objectives

Participants have te opportunity to reflected on what a successful career means to them and that career management and development is not a straightforward process. They become better equipped to take decisions concerning their next career step. They can better understand the values/interests/personality traits that drive them and how these influenced their past careers / can influence/be part of their future careers; have an understanding of the importance of transferrable skills; understand their own transferable skills and have learned how they can market them; they will have learned about a career management model; they will have learned about the MBTI personality model and understand their own perferred style; they will have understood why it is important to explore the job market, how to do it and what options could be open to them.

Content

Doctoral students need to apply with CV and motivation letter for this seminar, as it is restricted to 14 seats. Once the participants have been identified, they receive 4-6hours pre-work that needs to be complete before the seminar. Over 2.5 days, the participants explore the following topics: career management model, career success, discovering your values/interests/personality style, discovering your transferable skills, creating stories for the job interview, exploring the job market and career options, how to make career decisions. The seminar is based on experiential and blended learning approach, consisting 20% of facilitator input / presentations, 50% exercises, 30% peer coaching. During the whole seminar, participants are encouraged to write up a learning log and to identify learning goals.
