Seminars, Lectures & Colloquia
Techniques and Technologies Communication Self-presentation and Social Influence Self-awareness and Self-reflection
Abstract
After a short introduction into different interview techniques, students have the opportunity to observe a live interview between recruiters (1 or 2 ETH Career Center Coaches) and a pre-selected student.Learning Objectives
By observing the live simulated interview, the students learn more about potential questions and possible “tricky” situations. During the ensuing feedback and discussion round, the audience will develop a better understanding of the topics below and thus be able to better prepare themselves for upcoming interviews.
- How to behave in a first interview and what should you expect
- Why interviewers ask certain questions and what in-terviewers are really looking for.
- How to formulate efficient answers using the STAR interviewing method
- Certain Do’s and Don’ts of being interviewed
Content
Before the presentation takes place, a student is identified to play the candidate. He/she sends us their CV and a job advert for a job they would be interested in. At the beginning of the presentation, the facilitators (interviewees) explain to the audience how the session will unfold. The audience is given the CV and the job advert. Then the interview begins and the audience is asked to observe the questions and how the interviewee answers. At the end of the role-play, the candidate is asked what went well, less well; the audience can also give feedback. The interviewers / facilitators then debrief the interview, high-lighting what went well, less well; describing why certain questions are asked; giving tips on answering strategies. At then end, the audience can ask questions.Academic Semester
