Introduction to job interviews - do's and dont's
Seminars, Lectures & Colloquia
Abstract
Students have the opportunity to watch a film produced by the ETH Career Center and in which actors portray a typical job interview. The audience views and reflects on different scenes from the video so that they can become familiar with typical interview questions, acceptable and inadequate answers, and other classic mistakes to avoid.Learning Objectives
Thanks to the video sequences and the facilitators’ explanations and comments, students learn what to expect from a job interview, why the interviewer asks certain questions, impactful answering strategies (e.g. STAR method) and how to portray themselves in the best light possible. Based on these learnings, students can better prepare for their upcoming interviews.Content
The ETH Career Center facilitators introduce a video made by the ETH CC, and in which 1 fictive student is interviewed by two fictive interviewers. At the beginning of the presentation, the audience receive the fictive student's CV and job description for which he/she is being interviewed for. The facilitators quickly comment on this. Then the facilitators start playing the video. They stop the video after certain segments and have the audience reflect on what they just saw. For each segment, the facilitators also give tips and tricks. At the end of the video, the audience can ask questions.Academic Semester
