Abstract

The Career-Building Program is a scholarship program for female STEM students enrolled at our partner universities. This blended learning career-building programme runs across 3 school semesters and aims to prepare female students to enter the world of work and to take on future leadership roles.

Learning Objectives

The program equips students of all participating universities (incl. ETH Zürich) with essential professional and personal competencies, preparing them for a successful transition into the job market and for taking on future leadership responsibilities. Participants can expand their personal skills such as creativity, intrapreneurship, or necessary social competences in successful intercultural and virtual cooperation. In an innovation lab they work in a team and together with the partners from industry, research and science you can develop pioneering solutions for the challenges of tomorrow.

Content

Female students apply for this program. After handing in the written application they are invited to an assessment center. Over the course of three schools the selected students will learn about current trends in project work, together with 50 other technology enthusiasts.
The curriculum is composed of three modules: A) Career-Development; B) Innovation and Co-Creation; and C) Building Networks. At the end of the program, participants have learned about the building blocks of successful career management; they have increased their innovative competencies by participating in innovation labs and creativity 13; understood why networking is important and how to build and maintain their own networks. Thanks to exclusive excursions to partner companies and direct contacts to possible entry-level positions strengthen participants' increase their individual network.

Applicants need to be female and:
Be studying in one of these areas: Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical & Process Engineering, Materials Engineering, Information Technology & Electrical Engineering or Management & Technology.
Be in their master studies at the start of the programme. The ideal time to embark on the program is 1 or 2 years before completing your master.
Demonstrate motivation, engagement and team spirit.
Demonstrate the desire to actively engage in taking accountability and managing their own career
Demonstrate the desire to grow and take on higher levels of responsibility within a corporation
